    How Clean is YOUR House?

I’m absolutely fascinated by the show “How Clean is Your House?” on BBC America. In a half an hour, Kim Woodburn and Aggie MacKenzie (with the help of a large cleaning crew), manage to clean an absolutely filthy home while scolding the owners and giving them helpful tips on keeping things clean.

A typical episode has Kim and Aggie, while dressed to the nines, going into the home, without the owner present, to inspect the home. The state of these places is usually so bad that many of the owners could probably benefit from some counseling as well as a good clean. There was one episode where the woman owned several birds and let them roam freely in the house and never cleaned the mess. EWWW!

They then scold the owner for a bit. Kim and Aggie then don their cleaning outfits; Aggie, a white lab coat, Kim, a white cleaning uniform complete with colorful latex gloves adorned with marabou feather trim, and get down to cleaning (with the crew, of course).

The owner is shown some cleaning tips by Kim and made to do some work while Aggie takes swabs of the dirty home and has them analyzed for bacteria and the like. The results are not pretty.

At the end the house is sparkling clean and in some episodes, the ladies go back to visit a few weeks later to see how things are doing.

I don’t quite know why I like it so much, probably because it makes me feel like my house is as clean as a hospital ward. BBC America is starting to show episodes filmed in the US this week. It will be interesting to compare and contrast the homes and attitudes.

I used to watch How clean is your house with Aggie and Kim as my friend told me about it some time ago. At first i found it quite amusing but after awhile some of the homes they went to were so dirty and unkept it made me feel sick. How could people live in such dirty homes, i would not let anyone see my home if it was like the homes on the programme, i can understand to a degree if the people were ill or had some type of mental illness they would not be able to look after the home to a certain standard, but many of the people were just plain lazy and could not be bothered to clean at all. I like my home clean and tidy but i am not a cleaning goddess, when Aggie and Kim return after awhile and inspect the house to see if it has been kept up to stratch since the team went into clean it up, some of the people were going back to their old ways. I have a friend who doesn't work she is about 62 years old and her home is so dirty i won't visit anymore. I have said she will have to visit me her excuse is she doesn't like housework, i can't say i do but for your own health and wellbeing you should make the effort if you can to keep it clean and fresh i think.
